Page 8 - Blue Collar Rules of Golf
P. 8
When it was his turn to putt, using his lucky putting ball, he stroked
it to the hole, leaving the ball teetering on the edge of the cup. Sev-
eral seconds later, when the ball did not drop in, he walked up and
hit the ball over to his cart, saying, “Damn! I almost parred that
hole, give me a ive.”
If Sal was playing the USGA rules like he said he was he would be
“The
heading to the car having been disqualified. But, playing by
Blue Collar Rules,”
he damn near made that par!
The Official Rules of Golf are strict. The Rules determine how the
game is played. If you violate a rule, accidentally or on purpose,
you get penalized. These penalties come as: (a) strokes added to
(b) (c) (d)
your score, stroke and distance penalties; forfeitures, and
disqualification. For the weekend golfers, most of the Official rules
are not that important. They play the game without them. So what
if the ball moves a little when you get ready to hit? Who cares if
you have a few extra clubs in your bag, or if you don’t use the same
ball for every shot on a hole? Moving the ball to get a little grass
under it will have little to do with the outcome of your match.
